My maiden name was Prest. I have Johns and Josephs in my family tree. Peterlee is a new town started just after the war in the middle of the Durham mining area.
Most of my Prest's come from Pittington but they were a huge family. Grandfather was one of 7 and his father came from a large family. They were all based in the mining industry since 1840. Are you sure it is Yorkshire you are loking for.
