Jim:

There seem to have been two Peter Prides of that same generation IF the record showing a marriage to Mary Dance in 1772 is correct. The Peter Pride I am interested in lived in Dinwiddie Co. along White Oak Creek, married a daughter of Bolling Clark about 1770 and had a son, Peter Jr. who was born in Dinwiddie Co. in 1773. There is quite a lot of documentation of Peter (and Peter Jr.) in Dinwiddie Co. so I doubt that was the same Peter Pride that shows up in Chesterfield Co. records during the same period.

However, I suppose that Mary Dance could have been a widow when she married Peter Pride. However, I have corresponded with several Pride researchers who insist that Mary's proper surname was Dance.

By the way, John Pride's wife was Susannah Puckett.
