I am also a descendant of the Pike Co. Prides and have recently begun doing some research with my mother, Katherine (Amos) Stearman. In the process I ordered, and recently received, the 1888 Civil War pension file of Woolsey Pride with Nathaniel Pride as claimant. Here is the information from the file.

Woolsey Pride enlisted as Wesley Pride in Evansville, Indiana on August 20, 1861. He died at Gibson Co., Indiana on October 2, 1865. "He left no widow surviving, Elizabeth the mother of claimant died at Pike Co., Indiana on the 4th day of July 1861." The issue of soldier and Elizabeth were:

Thomas, b. Sept. 2nd, 1843
John, b March 12, 1856, d Aug 1883
Louis, b Oct 22, 1857, d Apr 10, 1883
Mariah, b Sept 26, 1859, d March 12, 1876
Nathaniel, b March 1, 1861

Nathaniel was the only surviving child who was under the age of sixteen at the time of Woolsey's death. R. Dedrick and E. Stephenson witnessed Nathaniel's signature on the Declaration for Pension.

Included with the file was the marriage certificate of Wolsey Pride and Elizabeth Whitehead on April 14, 1842. In that document his name was spelled Wosley in one place and Wolsey in three places.

Hope this helps.

Nancy Loder
