I have a five page article that details how Frederick Lafayette Jones (1784-1848), a member of the General Allen Jones family of N.C., changed his name to Frederick Lafayette Pride. His uncle, Halcott Briggs Pride, left F.L. Jones his estate only if he would change his name to Pride.
F.L. Jones was a son of Cadwaller Jones and wife, Mary Pride, who was a daughter of Halcott and Mary (Briggs) Pride. Mary (Pride) Jones had a brother, Halcott Briggs Pride, who left his estate to his nephew, F.L. Jones.
The article also brings the Sitgraves family into that of the Prides and Jones. Many of this family group came into York and Chester Counties, S.C., after the Revolution.
There is no provision in this forum to attach the article. I will be glad to send it to anyone who wants it.
