Alexander Pride (Edward Phillips 1790 - 1845)is my fourth great-grandfather. He is originally from Scotland. From the documents I have been able to locate, it appears as if he co-opted the name of a shipmate - Edward Phillips - upon his death during battle in the war of 1812 in order to hide his identity from authorities and claim this man's land in Nova Scotia. I have a sister who found his name on the manifest of the Shannon, but am not positive about this connection. Supposedly, this Alexander/Edward Pride/Phillips married a local preacher's (James Bailey 1773 - ?) daughter (Mary Bailey 1799 - 1880). From what I have found, it appears Alexander is the son of William Pride (1756 - ?) and Jean Smith of Cramond, Midlothian Scotland. William's parents are John Pryde (abt 1726 - ?) and Mary Peat (abt 1728 - ?).
