Dear Elisabeth,

Thank you so much for your message.

Richard Primmer born 1816 was the father of Eliza Maria Primmer, who married Henry James Hansell on 8 Jan 1866 at St Thomas Portsmouth. Their eldest son, Henry George Richard Hansell married Ellen Pope in 1890, and their eldest child was my grandmother, Nellie Ruth Theresa Hansell. Hence Richard Primmer (the elder) and Maria Jerram were also my GGGG grandparents!

The information I have regarding Richard Primmer and Maria Jerram is that they appear to have had 8 children between 1807 and 1827. The eldest was James, then Sarah Jane, Elizabeth, Mary Ann, Richard (who married Harriet Holmes), Caroline Anna, John, then Harriet Emma.

If the details above are correct, there is another oddity you may know of - James Primmer born 1807 appears to have married Mary Rattee (or Rattie, or Rattu(e) or Ratty). I would be interested to know any more details about Mary and her family, as I have a Lydia Rattu who married William Methuselah Pope in 1819 at Portsea, and their son James Edward Pope had a daghter Ellen. Ellen Pope was my great-grandmother as noted above.

I would be most interested to learn more about Richard Primmer and Maria Jerram. I do not know which area they originated from. I have been aware of several generations of Primmer's from Blendworth in Hampshire, but have not come across any from elsewhere in Hampshire.

I have copies of several certificates relating to my ancestors, including Eliza Maria's marriage, but although I know Eliza Maria was christened in 1847, so far I have been unable to trace where she was born. At her marriage on 8th January 1866 she was of 'full age'. I also have a copy of the certificate for Richard Primmer's marriage to Harriet Holmes on 25th April 1841. I should be most pleased to send copies of these and any others, if they may be of interest, and I would be very keen to receive copies of any relevant certificates you may have. I have the family tree so far as I have resolved it in a program 'Legacy 3.0', so copies of that, or prints from it can easily be sent to you if they are of interest.

I work in London, and live in Bromley, Kent, just south of London.

Best regards,
Bob Swan

PS. Do you by any chance have any connection with Malcolm Penny, a Glover, who died lasy year?
