The John Prior 57 living in Thorley in the 1881 census who said he came from Gt.Hadham is the person I am trying to trace.

I have found John Prior born 1824 Little Hadham with parents William & Mary. I can't find any other. So I suspect you may be right, that Little Hadam and Gt Hadham have been confused. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Obviously you must have a copy of the census for the Prior family living in Thorley in 1881. I think this family has a Hallingbury connection. An Aunt remembers that the family often talked about Little Hallingbury, just ouside Bishops Stortford. Perhaps an older generation was living there, or the younger members had moved there. As yet I have not researched this.

Other places and other names have been mentioned, which I have not started to research yet. Does any of this fit in with your research? If we are researching the same family, I can pass on further details.
