I can not even begin to tell you of the links to Proffer family I would have. I have a book that some distant relatives compiled with the Proffer names beginning with John Proffer born in Germany 1758. He was a "bound boy" to a blacksmith. He traveled with this man's family to Pennsylvania probably Philadelphia seaport.
Where do you live? There is a copy of this book in the Jackson Genealogy section of the Riverside Library. This book has in excess of 1500 names. Let me know what information I can get you started with. Your John Proffer is one of 10 siblings.
John's older brother, Moses, also named his son, George Washington Proffer. I must tell you this family mainly stayed in the same area and distant cousins married. So I am related on FOUR different Proffer lines. Please don't hesitate to email me personally at
