Julie:

Thank you for your reply. I am so pleased to find someone who knows about this family.

You are probably a distant cousin to my husband who descends from
Catherine Prothero and James Hughes, through their son

Evan Hughes, Sr., b. 19 Jan 1801 who married (1)Margaret Duley in 1818, (2) Mary Warson in 1836, and later(3) Catherine Hull through their son

Evan Hughes, Jr., b. 10 Jan 1838 who married Sarah Robb in Clermont Co., OH, through their son Ernest Calvin Hughes b. 1 Sep 1870 md. Ella Perrin, through their son, Lloyd Allen Hughes b. 6 Dec 1900 who married Tressie Marie Howard, parents of my husband, Robert Lloyd Hughes b. 28 Sep 1936.

I have hit a brick wall finding out about James Hughes' parents and ancestors.

For Catherine Prothro I have many dates and birth places and wonder who the correct Catherine really is. If she is the daughter of evan Prothero, I have a pretty good pedigree for her but I have been unable to confirm if she is his daughter.

If you know about James or Catherine, please reply. I will share any and everything I have found or will find.

I have read that James was an Indian Scout during the Revolutionary War, also that he apprenticeed with a John Winters as a tailor in Mecklenberg County ? Va. Several James Hughes served in the War from PA and VA. Other accounts say that he was a Methodist minister traveling through the Shenandoah Valley and was moving to IN when he died.

Any information will be appreciated.

Best wishes for a Great Year 2000.

Regards,

Judy Hughes
Franklin, NC
