Nope! No relation. However, let me share a few tips about French Canadian immigration to the area. The bulk of the immigration seemed to center on people seeking work in the textile mills. Woonsocket (north of Providence) was a virtual French colony, but almost every town had a French population.
Many Catholic Churches in the area were exclusively French; I remember attending a French mass in Fall River in my childhood (though I don't speak French).
Go to www.familysearch.org (the LDS church genealogy site) and check the Library Catalog. Do a place search on Providence (part of) Rhode Island, Woonsocket (part of) Rhode Island, and Fall River (part of) Massachusetts. You may find some microfilmed vital or church records that will help. You'll have to go to the nearest Family History center to order and read the microfilm, but it's a solid source. The same site has a listing to help you find the Family History Center nearest you.
