Are you still online?
I just ran across a submitter at the rootsweb site thata had a son for Joseph and Mary and this was my reply with research from various censuses:
This "son" Aseph is really spelled "Joseph".....born c1845. If looking closer at the 1860 census, it is spelled very much like the head of households name Joseph and only 'appears' to be different.
Since posting this earlier today, I went shopping and scratching my head all the way since the daughter Sarah had a surname of Kavanaugh in the 1870 census, Sarah appears with her parents but with a married name and a three year old son named John Kavenaugh but no husband for her in the household. Sarah is 18 yrs old at that time.
Earlier I found a Jos Prugh in 1850 with a wife Mary R.[Rose] and a Jos [it looked like] Kavenaugh age 6 but no relation to the head of household given for that census and a son age 1 yr named Augustine and the box asking if married within the year is checked for this couple.
I believe after locating almost all the censuses for this couple, the Aseph/Joseph is NOT a son at all for this couple, and is the father of the child John seen later in the 1870 census. Sarah later married a man with the surname of Barr.
I would be glad to send you the 1850 Wisconsin census with the family surname spelled PRUGH so you might see this for yourself. I no longer believe Joseph and Mary married as early as 1840.
