I have found some letters to Phocian & Emma Prouty, my Grandparents, from his brother John J. Prouty in Baldwinsville, New York. His wife's name was Kittie, and I believe they had dughter who was named Emily.
These letters were written in the 1890's. I am trying to find out the name of the father of Phocian and John J., as well as the connection to Salmon S. Prouty, parents were Stephen and Sarah Almira Willard Prouty from Van Buren, New York.
Salmon came to Kansas in the 1850's, became a well known printer, was an officer in the Army at Fort Riley, was editor and publisher of the Junction City Daily Union from 1877 to 1881. Became a Ks. State Legislature photographer in 1887-88. Married Hannah Maria Whitehead, a native of New Jersey in May l858 at Lawrence,Kansas. He died in Topeka on Januaary 31, 1889. Had 8 children. A son, Franklin Greeley Prouty, was born May 29, 1861.
Salmon and Phocian were cousins, but I do not have the connecting parents. One article gives Phocians birthplace as Ononadaga County, N. Y., the interment records of Junction City, Kansas show Baldwinsville. Any of you Prouty's related?
