I have a newspaper clipping that states he moved from Vermont to Ohio with his parents at the age of 7- moved from Ohio to NE in 1851. He was elected presiding judge of the county court in 1864 which office he held for four years. He is buried in French cemetary. His son Lucian Emmet was my great grandfather. I have a longer newspaper article on him if you are interested. I did find in this newspaper article that his parents were Abijah J. Prouty and Lydia Hill Prouty, natives of New Yourk and Vermont, and born 1795 and 1797. They were married in Vermont, and in 1832 moved to Licking County Ohio. The father was Irish descent and was a farmer. Hope this helps.
