Page 40-1 The first Packersfield Town Record Book lists both John Proutee and Johnson Proutee as attending the Proprietors Meeting of March 3, 1773, when the town was known as Monadnock No. 6.
The book does not have an index, but there are no Prouty listings in the church membership rolls, nor buried in the cemetery, nor as serving
as town officers.
John Proute is however shown as owning homestead designated as P in the C-2 square of the map which accompanied the book. I tried to get some idea of when John Proute would have lived on that homestead,
by reading the bio sketches of the other owners of that same piece
of property. One complication is that the owners appear to be listed
alphabetically, rather than chronologically. My working hypothesis is
that John Proute left very early, selling out to Benjamin Day. But
that is based solely on the information provided about other owners
of that same piece of property, and I might have drawn an erroneous
conclusion. Here's a summary of what the History said about the
owners of that piece of property.
p. 183: Benjamin Day, who fought in the Revolution, had purchased
property in Monadnock No. 6, C-2-P, several years before coming to
Packersfield in 1777. Benjamin settled in the northeast quarter
[which is where C-P is] and built the house still standing--one of
the oldest in town; died in 1786.
