One point of confusion is that there was an Alva E. Prouty b. 1861 who was the son of Henry Samuel Prouty. The family lived in Canaan in 1870. Henry Samuel was the son of Carlton Samuel and Almina Powers.Carlton was married three times and had children by all three wives.
Your Alva Harmon was NOT the son of James Lysergus>Jacob Jr>Jacob>Isaac>Richard and Damaris. James Lysergus had children:John E., Martha A, Ellen F. James C.
One possibility however is that your Alva was of the same line as Henry Samuel, since his son was Alva E., too. Only two of Carlton and Almina's children are known-Henry Samuel and Charlie. Carlton lived in Franklin, Vt in 1850 and isn't found again until 1881 in Ontario, Canada, where he died in 1905.
