You are correct in that Mary Ann "Polly" Prouty that you refer to was not Burpee's daughter. She was the daughter of Elijah W. H. Prouty and Hannah Day of Brattleboro, Vt. Mary Ann Prouty, daughter of Burpee, was b. 18 Jan 1800 in Weathersfield, Vt. She married Ira Hatch on 23 Sep 1823 in Hartford, Vt. They had six children-Martha, Harlan, Sophia, Oramel C., Herman, and Marcia Melinda.
Ira Otis Prouty, son of Burpee, married Mary Nixon on 19 Feb 1827. He died in 1833 in Malone, Franklin Co., NY. Mary d. 18 Jan 1831 in Middlebury, Addison Co., Vt. They had no children.
The Ira Prouty you are referring to that went to Ohio then Wisconsin was my third great granduncle, Ira N. Prouty b. 1796 d 1866 in Wisconsin. He did marry Mardula Smith.
Esther Elizabeth also had a daughter Martha L. Curtis b. 1840-(see 21 Oct 1850 and 11 Jul 1860 Cottage Grove, Dane Co., Wisc census)I have not heard of Byron Franklin being a son of Samuel. He is not listed in any of the censuses with the family.
Another common misconception is that Burpee's father was Richard b. 1742. In reality Burpee's father was Richard Sr. b. 1708/09 in Scituate, who was first married to Lydia House(my line is through Lydia). Richard, Jr b. 1742 married only Susannah White-daughter of Josiah White and their family lived in Washington Co., NY.
Do you know hwo Amaryllis Tolles parents were and where Amasa Prouty is buried?
