Frank Kaye Prouty Obituary
Frank Kaye Prouty, 80, of Ponca City, Oklahoma, moved to Heaven on Wednesday April 15, 2009 at the Ponca City Nursing Home. “Kaye” was born March 17, 1929 in Hennessey, Oklahoma to Floyd Kenneth Prouty and Lucille Marie Stinson. Kaye’s grandfather Albert Frank Prouty, moved the family to Enid, Oklahoma from Adel, Iowa in about 1910, and the family later moved to Hennessey.Kaye attended Hennessey schools and was a Boys’ State Delegate. He graduated from Hennessey High School in 1947 with twelve years perfect attendance. He was voted “Most Handsome” by his senior class. After graduation he was employed by his grandmother, Cora Belle Crites Starkey, at Starkey’s Garage in Hennessey. He married Verda Marie Shuford, daughter of Stanley Bratton Shuford and Nellie Verda Fry, on October 5, 1950 at the Hennessey Baptist Church. The family lived briefly in Hennessey and Kingfisher, Oklahoma before moving to Blackwell, Oklahoma in 1956. Kaye was employed there at Jack Bowker Ford. He was a master mechanic with a remarkable mechanical ability. If the part he needed wasn’t available, he would design and make it himself. He was a volunteer fireman for the cities of Hennessey and Blackwell, Oklahoma. He received Jesus as his Lord and Savior and served as Sunday School Superintendent for the Blackwell Baptist Mission in the late 1950s and early 1960s, and was always willing to help those who were less fortunate. The couple had three children: Louise, David, and Colleen Prouty.
On November 3, 1967 he married Ruby Rhea Horineck in Ponca City, Oklahoma, where he owned Kaye’s Mobile Auto Repair. The couple own Prouty Real Estate Rental Properties in Ponca City.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby, of the home; sister Eddie Bernice Prouty Bierig of Okeene, Oklahoma, daughter Louise Prouty of Oklahoma City; son David Prouty (Kris) of Oklahoma City; daughter Colleen Killingsworth (Brett) of Rowlett, Texas, grandchildren Heather Rowley of Tulsa, Oklahoma, David Rowley (Brandi) of Yukon, Oklahoma; Jordan Prouty of Oklahoma City; Megan Prouty of Stillwater; Tracy Bowdler of Dallas; Tia Bowdler of Amsterdam, Holland; seven great-grandchildren-Joshua, Sarah, Rachel, Braxton, Tucker, Zeb, and Draegon; eight nieces and one nephew; precious friends Eugene and Joyce Braly and family of Blackwell, and five step-children: Carolyn Delaney (Walter) of Newkirk, Oklahoma; Robert Rhea (Zulima), Pamela Palmer (Bill), John Rhea (Barbara), Richard Horineck, all of Ponca City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-laws Earl Dean Bierig and Edward Lyman, sister-in-law Carolyn Shuford Lyman, brother Floyd Kenneth Prouty Jr., neice Deann Bierig Leutkemeyer, and his only first cousin, Geraldine Prouty Sabo. Funeral services were held at Albright Methodist Church in Ponca City, on April 19, 2009 at 11:00 am. Rev. Matthew Lucas officiated.
