Hope you're still checking these messages. Your William and Mary Provan are living at Provan's Buildings, Kilsyth in 1901. He is a village butcher, aged 29, born in Banton, Kilsyth. She is 25, born in the parish of Strathblane, Stirlingshire. Their children then were Walter, aged 3, and Mary aged 9 months. Walter had been born in Bishopton in Renfrewshire, while Mary had been born in Haggs (Parish of Denny), Stirlingshire. So William had returned to his parish of birth by the time of the 1901 census.

William appears to have been a son of David Provan, an ironstone miner in Banton, Kilsyth. The Provans in Banton were numerous, many being miners. Strangely, I do not see the birth certificate index entry for William in the IGI. If you are interested, I can look into this further, as I have a general interest in the Provans in that area.
Mary McInnes was a daughter of John McInnes, ploughman, apparently a native of Baldernock, Stirlingshire.
I shall wait to hear from you.
