Jesse, Have you looked at this family? I am descended from William, and Elizabeth is definitely not his line, but, John, Hiram, or James look like your best possibilities.

Thomas Province/Provance was born between 1752 and 1758, in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, and died after 1800, in Greene County, Tennessee. He married Sarah, whose maiden name is Unknown.

Note: Thomas Provance, son of John William Provance, is listed as a "Boarder" in the 1773 area tax list. We find him and his wife, Sarah living in the Big Whitely Creek (Washington, County, Pennsylvania, now Greene County, Pennsylvania) area, near Aaron Jenkins, and selling riverfront land in 1780. The land deed shows this Sarah Provance using a "X". Thomas Provance is listed on several militia rolls 1780-83 as living in Washington,County, Pennsylvania.

Note: The Provances,Wrights and others went to this part of Tennessee in the late 1780s for a land boom, but, Indian problems, minimal quality farm land and crowding caused settlers to rethink the area, thats why the Wrights and the Provances moved on to Missouri.

Note: Thomas Province was in, what is now, Greene County,Tennessee, by 1784. John Province was with him in 1784, and both were ordered by the County of Greene Tennessee to do road work to pay their Poll Tax. This tells us that both are at least twenty one years old. Thomas bought land along Lick Creek in 1796. John already had land along Lick Creek in 1787, and James bought land along Lick Creek in 1791. Sarah Province was a witness in a law suit in 1804, along with Harm (Hiram) Province of Greeneville, Greene County,Tennessee.

Children of Thomas Province and Sarah MNU are:

1. John Province

2. Hiram Province

3. James Province

Ron Couch

4. William Province
