Looking for the parents and first and possibly second wives of Jesse Pry who came from the Washington and Frederick Counties, Maryland area to Henderson County, Kentucky first and then to Spencer County, Indiana. His wife at the time of his death in 1847 was Frances, widow of Elisha Durfee.

Jesse Pry was born August 27, 1767 in Anne Arundel Co., Maryland 14 miles from Washington, D.C. Jesse's family later moved to the area of Frederick and Washington Counties, Maryland. At the age of 14, he was drafted into the militia after the surrender of Cornwallis, March 1782 and served 3 months and eleven days at Fort Frederick, Maryland. At the time, he was living 12 miles from Hagerstown, Washington Co., Maryland. He served in a company that was part of the 29th regiment under Col. S. Rollins and guarded prisoners of war (Pension Application #8509, National Archives). The reconstructed fort is located about 15 miles west of Hagerstown, Maryland and is operated by the National Park Service.
In 1790, a John and a Philip Pry were residing in Washington County. By 1800, only a Henry and a John Pry appeared on the 1800 Washington County census while Jesse Pry and a George Pry (over the age of 45) appeared on the Frederick County census. In 1810, Jesse and possibly his brother John Pry moved to Green River, Kentucky (Henderson Co.). John married Margaret White in Washington County Feb. 17, 1803 (Washington Co.,MD Marriages comp. by D. W. Morrow, 1982). In Kentucky, Jesse settled near the Galloways and his daughter Rebecca married Pleasant Galloway. The Prys and Galloways moved east and across the Ohio River to Spencer County, Indiana in 1816 but continued their Kentucky ties as can be seen over the years with family members going back and forth the Ohio River to marry. John Pry and his family remained in Kentucky.
Jesse died in July 27, 1847 and is buried at Baker's Creek Cemetery near Eureka, Spencer County, Indiana
