Your Jim is probably from a different branch of the Puett family than the line I am researching. The Puett family started with Thomas Puett (1616-1692) who migrated from England to Virginia about 1636. Thomas's great grandson, Henry Puett (1722-1790) moved from Henrico Co VA to Wilkes Co NC, and there are still a lot of Puetts in the Carolinas. My branch moved from NC to Parke Co IN about 1815 and Elisha Puett (ca 1806-1864) moved from IN to TX (via AR) in the 1840s, settling in the area south of Waco that became Milam, Bell, and Coryell counties.
It appears your Jim probably came to Texas directly from NC. Shamrock is in Wheeler Co TX, quite a distance from where my branch settled.
