Robert,

Noone has been able to positively identify George's lineage. Some have said he is the son of a William Puffer.

That the Puffer name has German roots in not in doubt. There are Czech Puffers as well that have immigrated to the US. Again there is no positive proof of a link to any English, German, Austrian, or other nationality Puffer family that I am aware of.

I think the Nutt book is a good starting point and should be the basis for any serious Puffer genealogy.
