John & Daniel Pugh, Orange Co, NC
Has anybody ever figured out who the Daniel and John Pugh found in the Hawfields area of Orange/Alamance Cos, NC between about 1760-1800 are?Are they related to the Quaker Pughs over in Randolph Co. or not?Are they from the Pa. early Pugh families by way of Hampshire Co. VA?
I'm trying to find the connection between Daniel and John (brothers? Father and son?)and information about their origins and families.Daniel Pugh seems the earliest in the Hawfields area, and is listed as an intruder on Samuel Strudwick's lands.John Pugh later buys land from Strudwick. One John Pugh marries an Ann Moore about 1792, said to be a daughter of a James Moore, but this is not known for sure.John also sold a small tract to Ann Moore, which seems an odd thing for a young, unmarried girl to do prior to a marriage. Was she perhaps older, and a Moore widow, rather than a daughter of James Moore?Immediately to their west, an unidentified Sterling Moore sells a tract in 1799 that he didn't buy (???), but which was near (or perhaps even overlapping) with some of the Pugh lands earlier.
Does anyone have information on the families and origins of Daniel and John of the Hawfields. They did not live in the Randolph Co. area, and I have no idea whether they were connected to that group or not.
Any help appreciated.
