John Bell Pugh Researchers
I have noted that several Internet websites that concern the ancestry of Joh Bell Pugh have included information without authentication that he is the son of Eaton Pugh.
In an effort to help these researchers begin anew to find their actual ancestory, I offer the proof that he absolutely does not descend through Eaton Pugh.
To confirm, please send to the NC Archives for a copy of Eaton Pugh's Will dated 27 November 1821 & provedDecember Court 1821:WILL OF EATON PUGH
NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA WILL BOOK 3, PAGE 259
In his Will he leaves bequests to his wife & to his niece Niece Mary McKinlay Pugh Jones(daughter of his niece, Saly Eaton Daves& her husband Morgan Jones) and two nephews, John Pugh Daves & Thomas Haynes Daves (sons of his 1/2 sister Mary Haynes & her 3rd husband John Daves, who were also the parents of Sally Eaton Daves). No children of Eaton Pugh are included.
In the last "Item" of Eaton Pugh's Will he makes it very plain that his land must only descend to those of his blood.Proof that he had NO son & that John Bell Pugh DID NOT descend through this family.
Following is the final "Item" of his Will:
"Being anxiously desirous to place my real estate in those who have the greatest or equal claims upon me, and while perusing the devise to my Niece (Mary McKinlay Pugh Jones) or to her Trustees, it did not occur to me that she might marry and die leaving no issue to inherit her real estate devised under this Will, whereby it would descend on and vest in her half brothers and sisters, who have none of my blood, for prevention whereof I do devise order and direct that in the event of my said Niece dying without issue as the aforesaid above that then and in such case, the real estate, as well that which is descended on my beloved Wifes widowhood or life, as that which is not so descended, herein before devised to my said Niece, shall vest and take effect in my said Nephews John P. & Thomas H. Daves, share and share alike as tenants in Common in fee Simple; and I do make this devise for the express purpose of [unreadable] and [unreadable] said real estate in the event aforesaid and for no other purpose or intent whatever."
I offer the researchers of John Bell Pugh the very very best of luck in continuing their research to find his ancestry.A good place to begin might be with the Bell family.Searches in Google for "Bell Pugh"bring forth a plethoria of others similarly named.
