I beleive we have common ancestors, the last being Bennet Kyle Pullen; I am a decendent of he and
his second wife Mary Elizabeth Woodson, Sarah was his first wife.Bennet was born January 12 1846 and died July 16, 1917.He is buried in Reed Cemetery located on Highway 164 between Monmouth and Oquawka, Illinois. He moved to Gladstone, Illinois (where I now reside) with his second wife Mary (Molly) in 1912 along with five of their children and one niece Maud Pullen.Several relative preceded their move from Eagle Rock, Virginia. The children were Clarence Kyle (my grandfather), Lawrence, Cecil Norman, Walter and Sadie. As far as I know all of the children from his marrigae to Sarah remained in Virginia. Those children were Earnest born in 1870; Emmett (your ancestor)born April 4, 1872; Edwin born May 27, 1974 (he was killed in a train accident August 26, 1907) and is buried in the graveyard in the back of the Northern Methodist Church in Eagle Rock; and Charles born in 1876.We do not know the date of Sarah's death.
Bennett Kyle's parents were Willliam David Pullen 1810-1870 and Nancy Whitmere 1818-1904.They were married November 15, 1838 and are buried in the Alan-Carper Cemettery on Highway 43 near the intersection of the raod that leads to the Shiloh Methodist in rural Eagle Rock, Virginia.Eagle Rock is a small mountain town along the James River and life there must have been difficult. In 1860 William was the constable, the town was known as Salt Peter until 1870.William and nancy's other children weere: Melissa, mary, James, Manerva, Bettie, Charles, Frances Jeanette, David Sarah and William. By the time of the 1900 census there were 48 individuals in Eagle Rock with the name Pullen. If you have not visited Eagle Rock, do.
I have no information on the ancestry of Nancy. William's parents were John, born April 11, 1798 and Elizabeth Bennett, born in 1776.In addition to William their other children were Mary, Nancy, Quintilla, Lydia, Archibal, William, Jesse, Joseph and Samuel. They were living along the James River in Botecourt County according to the 1810 and 1820 census, the 1830 census showed they owned 5 slaves and had 8 by 1840.In 1850 Elizabeth at age 76 is living with Samuel, John is not listed and she is not in the 1860 census.I have not located their burial place.
Through the records of Botecourt County and family lore I am fairly certain of the above. Some of what follows was passed on to me by Dr. Thomas Granville Pullen who was the President of the University of Baltimore is also a decendant of Moses Pullen through his son Thomas who was John's brother. They lived in Bedford County adjacent to Botecourt.
Elizabeth parents were Moses Bennett (obviously Bennett Kyle was named after his grandmother) and Nancy Copper.John's parents were Moses Pullen, who died in 1970 and Lydia (last name unkown).
Moses Pullen's parents were William , born 1697 in Lancaster county and Winifred Everett born 1696 in Northumberland County, died 1766 in Lancaster County.Winifred's parents were Thomas and Elizabth Everett.
William's parent were Henry who was born in 1659 and who died in 1698 in Lancasater County and Mary Stott who was born in 1662 in Lancaster County and who died there in 1731.Mary's parents were Justice Bryant Stott and Mary Shipp.
Henry's father was Thomas who was born in Middlesex County in 1632 and died in 1690.
Thomas's parents were William and Elizabeth. Not sure of their date of their initial arrival from England.Elizabeth has an arrival in 1656
Again, possible conjecture on generations from William/Elizabeth to William/Winifred.One story has decent from Edward I.
