Hi Pat,
Thanks for responding.
I believe that my ggrands were enslaved in SC as 5 of 6
children are listed as born there.
ALSO, believe that the WEELDON surname came from the WHEELDON/WHILDEN family of Christ Church and Sumter, SC.
Find who I think are 2 great aunts listed w/the WHILDEN
spelling of the surname.
Suspect that an ELVRIA? WHILDEN, whose 1890 death certificate is listed for Charleston, may have been kin;
she is listed as an octoroon, which indicates to me that
some ancestors may have chosen to pass for white.
Have struggled w/this research for 13yrs and am still batting ZERO---------FAIL also, to find the NATIVE CONNECTION.
