Try books on heraldry. You can find plenty of them in the larger libraries, and the smaller ones have some good onees also. That is where I obtained a large amount of family history.Connected names are Pullon, Pollen, Pulleine, Pulhan. The Pullen's do have a crest and shield - very beautiful.
There is a "legend" about the beginning of the name...take it lightly. It begins that quite a number of men were in a rickety wooden wagon being pulled by oxen way back in early history of Europe. It got bogged down in some deep mud.Everyone piled out, some trying to pull the ox, others trying to push the resisting and teetering wagon from the sides. It just wasn't going anywhere.Finallly the guy in the back got tired of feeling like he was giving all the effort and yelled, "Whose pullin'?"And our ancestor in the front said "I am!"
Thus, creating the name.
Thus, creating the name. However, there are books on just the origins of names and you may be able to look at these also at the local or larger libraries.
Ask your reference librarian.
