Speaking of source citiation, the following was transcribed from the original by me, but not noted on your previos message:
ALLEN CO, KY DEED BOOK C 1820-1825 (Tabor)
Pg420-22 Oct 4, 1824 ...between JOSEPH PULLIAM, CHRISTOPHER DICKIN, THOMAS PULLIAM , WILLIAM PULLIAM, JOHN PULLIAM, MILES BROOKS, WALTER THOMAS, JOHNSON OWEN, RICE JAMESSON, CHARLES PULLIAM, ROBERT PULLIAM, GIDEON PULLILAM the sd CHRISTOPHER DICKIN by virtue of his intermarriage with LUCY late LUCY PULLIAM, WALTER THOMAS by his intermarriage with NANCY late NANCY PULLIAM, JOHNSON OWENS by his intermarriage with SUSAN late SUSAN PULLIAM, WILLIAM AMOS by his intermarriage with ELIZABETH late ELIZABETH PULLIAM and GIDEON PULLIAM by his intermarriage with SARAH late SARAH PULLIAM heir ... of BENJAMIN PULLIAM dec'd .. of the one part and JAMES PULLIAM of the county of Hart and state afsd....convey unto the sd JAMES PULLIAM ... parcel of land ... in the county of Livingston ... state afsd (Kentucky) ... Test: WILLIAM PULLIAM, JOSEPH PULLIAM Signed: JOSEPH PULLIAM, CHRISTOPHER DICKINS , THOMAS PULLIAM, WILLIAM PULLIAM, JOHN PULLIAM, MILES BROOKS, JOHNSON OWEN, RICE JAMERSON, CHARLES PULLIAM, ROBERT PULLIAM, GIDEON PULLIAM, WILLIAM AMOS, W. THOMAS in this own right and as agent for the heirs above mentioned ... recorded Nov 1 , 1824 ..

In the VIRGINIA TAXPAYERS (Fothergill), the 1783 Culpepper Co VA listing has only 1 Robert Stuart - more probably the son given in the will of Robert Stuart Sr, dated 1770.

In the VIRGINA TAXPAYERS (Fothergill) book there are 25 counties listed and only 1 Benjamin Pulliam of Culpepper Co VA - which leads us to believe that the Lucy Pulliam given in the 1770 will of Robert Stuart is the one and same who migrated to Barren Co.

In doing a search on the VA Arcives website, there were only 2 Benjamin Pulliams listed in the Rev. War era - on in Mecklenburg Co VA and the other in Culpepper Co VA - with Joseph Strother as assignee - the husband to Nancy Stuart Strother mentioned in Robert Stuart's will.

So, due to the circumstantial evidence, the Benjamin Pulliam of Culpepper Co VA and Barren Co KY are the same.

I have not found a marriage date of Lucy Stuart to Benjamin Pulliam, but an email to the contributor might yeild an answer.

As far as the naming patterns, but oldest son was usually named for the wive's father, and the second son for the husband's father, but that is only a guide and not definite.

I have no idea where the middle name of Obidiah derived, but middle names were an acceptance of the German traditions and began appearing after the Rev. War, not before, and closer to the early 1800's.

I do not doubt that the following Benjamin Pulliam is the same husband of Lucy Stuart, and grandson of John Holloday based on the closeness of Spotsylvania and Culpepper Co's and the lack of Pulliam and Stuart surnames in those areas.

Leg. sons, James, Thomas and Benjamin; daughters, Winifred, Susannah, Elizabeth, Agnes, Mary; Anna, wife of David San-dige; Sarah, wife of Christopher Dickin. (Page 369)

Add the incident of Christopher Dicken and David Sandige to the equation, and I don't think there should be much question as to the relationships.

I believe there was some confusion on the part of the clerk who recorded the Allen Co info because Lucy Pulliam married Miles Brooks 1805 Barren Co KY, and verified in an obit of a daughter of Miles and Lucy Brooks.

Following the ancestry of Benjamin Pulliams' son-in-laws will yield more conclusive confidence in the suppositions.

Sharon Tabor
PS I am a descendant of Benjamin and Lucy Stuart Pulliam via their son William who married Elizabeth Carter of Barren Co KY.
