Sounds reasonable that he came via US (I had a Finnish g grandfather who did the same thing)- a member of the German Interest Group suggested that he might have been recorded on a conscription register for military service - might even explain why he shot through at such a young age? The only info I have on Julia Marian is what is on her birth certificate, which I can send you if you want to give your address.
