I have written the OK Vital Statistics three times, paid twice because I didn't get back to them within the required six months. I have driven from Houston to OK City, four times and paid twice more, over the past two and half years and I still do not have a copy of her Death Certificate. I have found some interesting information on how they do their searches. After finding the Obit and the date of death, I found that they only looked in Vol 1, which did not have the right year in it. I returned the next day with my receipt and asked why they didn't look in the book with the correct year. I was told they look in the 1st book first. I had them re-do my request. They didn't find anything for her. I asked that they re-look. They came up with a death certificate for Eliza Cuthbert. I was tickled pink and was walking out the door when I noticed that the husband signed the death certificate. Then, I saw that the woman was born in the 1860's not in 1830 and she died in 1929 not 1917. My Eliza's husband died in 1875 in KS. I took it back and told them this was not the correct one. They gave me a new receipt but not my money and told me if I found any additional information within the six months, they would be happy to search again. What more do you need if you have the date of death, place of death, place of burial, her full name, place of birth, marriage and all the childrens names. My, oh my. I do not have the names of her parents, who were both born in NY. I see that I misspelled the Cemetery, it should be Square Cedar Cemetery. I stopped in Enid OK in Mar 2001 at the funeral home that has the marker on her grave but they could not find anything on it in their records for 1917. I believe the marker was place there later. I will persue this more. I have joined the Pontius Family Association and have to fill out my paper. They may then be able to give me more information on her parents. Will post when I get more information.
