Hi cuz,
I have a copy of GGGgrandmother Marinda's obituary and I know where she's buried, and I have a copy of her funeral card. According to preliminary research (I'm new to this branch right now) I am starting to think that our Marinda Azbell-Punneo b. 1824 Lebanon OH's parents were:
William Azbell(spelled Asbell) and Alah VanWinkle who married in KY; Alah's parent's were:
Benjamin VanWinkle and Cherokee Woman.
The old family rumor is that Marinda was "half indian", so it may be true. Marinda's daughter Sarah had high cheekbones like native americans usually have, so it is a definite possibility, but I've proven nothing yet for sure.

The Above William (married to Alah) had the parents:
William Asbell and Marinda Ross of NC.
But...it's just speculation right now. Her obit tells no parent names. It does mention her husband James Punneo as being "of French Descent".
If William and Marinda Ross Asbell of NC are the grandparents of our Marinda Azbell-Punneo, that lineage has been traced by researchers back to 1600 England and further, so if we do connect to them, much is documented already.

More research is needed for confirmation, because while the obit is nice to have, it doesn't give info on her parents.
Contact me directly if you like.
