I think you replied to one of my messages on "another" family history site? I was wondering if you have any info on the West Rainton, County Durham Punshons? I am looking for a William Punshon who married an Ann ??. I am begining to wonder if they ever married! On all census 1841 - 1871 they are William Punshon and Ann Punshon, Married. They had 3 children John and Elizabeth (twins)b.1831 and Ellen b.1833 (my line)m. John Whitfield. Also in 1841 living in the same house was Margaret GRAY aged 14, but listed as a seperate household.
The 3 children were baptised in St. Mary's West Rainton, BUT as John Punshon GRAY, Elizabeth Punshon GRAY etc. There parents were listed as Ann GRAY (Widow)on all of them there was no mention of a father. The only clue being the fact that they had Punshon as a middle name and William Punshon was on census as Ann's husband.
Elizabeth Punshon GRAY m. William Young 10 April 1854 St. Mary's West Rainton. She lists NO father on cert, but signs her name as Elizabeth Punshon GRAY - John PUNSHON was a witness (was this her brother without the GRAY or a relation?)
Ellen Punshon GRAY married John Whitfield 27 Dec 1852 St. Mary's West Rainton - signs as Ellen Punshon GRAY abd also states William Punshon as her father.
William Punshon born about 1807/8 Newcastle.
I think Williams parents were William and Elizabeth and William son of Ralph and Hussey (Ursular)Marley.
What do you think? If you have no info on these families perhaps you would like to add them to your database.
