I'm researching my g-grandmother Catherine Purcell's family and running into lots of road blocks. This is what I know -
Catherine Purcell, born in New York (City, from what I am told) in August 1869. Her mother is Mary Fogarty and I believe her dad is John Purcell, although I have not completely confirmed. Both John and Mary were born in IRE I think around 1843.
Mary dies young and John/Catherine go out to San Francisco so Catherine can have some "female influence". John/dad is a shoe maker. It seems John has a sister named Catherine living in SF who married William Bacome, also from IRE.
I cannot confirm much more - I found an article in a CA newspaper who said a John Purcell died in 1886 (living where I know the Bacome's live in SF), so I think this is my Purcell.
Living relatives tell me my g-grandmother Catherine (not to be confused with the aunt Catherine) might have had a sister but I cannot find any family living in NYC as a match to Catherine, Mary (mom) and John (dad).
My g-grandmother married Peter Carlyon in 1894. She died in 1942, while living with my grandmother.
Has anyone run across this line of Purcell's? Any searches on a Purcell/Fogarty marriage are met with no info as well.
I am also struggling to search for Irish records as I don't know but suspect my Purcell/Fogarty might have married in IRE, but cannot confirm.
Any information is very much appreciated - thank you!
