Hi, Gerald, You don't say where your Purcells came from but try this
Tobias Purcell of Timogue Castle, Co. Laois (then Queen's Co.) born 1738 m. to Judith Scully 1783, had a string of chilren amongst them another Tobias. What happened later I don't know but Tobias is not a very common name in Ireland and this family seems to have passed it down the generations. Good luck !
