Purdum Family name

I am researching my family. We spell ours Pyrdum. I know the original spelling was Purdum. I know I am decended from a Mark Purdum of Tennesse (Franklin County) Shelbyville, Mark served in the Civil war in the 41st Tennessee. His muster records reflect about 5 different spellings. It is believed this is where the (PY) came from. Does anyone have any information on Mark Pyrdum, born around 1840 ?
