Which Simeon Purdy founded Moundsville, Va./W.Va.

Various histories say Moundsville, Va. (now W.Va.) was laid out in 1831 by Simeon Purdy. There were two Simeons living in that area at the time, perhaps father and son. Does anyone have proof from period documents as to which one was the founder -- Simeon, sometimes identified as Simeon Sr., who was born about 1780, or Simeon B. Purdy, born about 1805?

The younger Simeon seems to have been more successful and prosperous, judging from census returns and other contemporary documents.
