When you say "from Syracuse" , which generation are you talking about? We show a John 7 Purdy and Maria Bradner living at Harmony, Chautauqua Co NY with 3 sons and 4 daus, but the only child identified is James D. Purdy born 1840 who married Rosa Carr. This is about the right area, and the right time frame. If the Syracuse location is associated with the later generations, then this could be the family. The only other John and Maria we show was near Penn Yan but a few years too early for a son in 1844, and with four children who are identified.
The ancestry of John 7 born c1802 was Silas 6 born 1778 and Mary Elizabeth Snyder, Peter 5 1745 and Phebe Carpenter, Peter 4 c1705 and Phebe Carpenter, Francis 3 c1676 and Martha Disbrow, Francis 2 c1652 and Mary Lane, Francis 1 and Mary Brundish.
Contact me via email to discuss further if you wish.
