Massacre of James Purdy family, Wheeling, Va./W.Va.

I just came across an account (in De Haas' 1851 "HIstory of the Early Settlement and Indian Wars of Western Virginia) of the massacre of the James Purdy family by Indians in 1788. Purdy, his unnamed wife and two unnamed sons were killed. Two unnamed daughters were taken captive and released 10 years later. The Purdys were described as living "on the hill just above Bedelion's mill" which was "in the neighborhood of Wheeling [Va., now W.Va.]."

Does anyone have any other sources for information about this Purdy family. Previously, I believed Jonathan Purdy, who settled in what's now adjacent Marshall Co., W.Va., in 1790, was the first Purdy in this area. I'm trying to trace a possible connection between Jonathan and this James Purdy.
