That is interesting. I a still researching our family tree. My father passed away this Feb. and he got as far back as my great great grandfather. His name was Joseph Pergerson and he came over to the USA after the civil war via a boat we think from Ireland or Scotland. There were some Williams I believe. Who knows they
could be connected some how. So many people immigrated to the USA from Ireland and Scotland during the potato famine that it is possible they are connected. Maybe your group came over earlier? I have to check back on my history dates...I can't remember when the civil war was at this moment. I think 1878 was before the war or at the start... not sure I would have to double check. My father told me that our name was spelled several different ways he thought. He had done a lot of research and searching thru tax records etc. for this area. He said it was common for names to be misspelled, some times the census takers were not too great at guessing at the spelling.. and alot of the individuals did not know the correct spelling of their names... could not read and write etc. keep in touch may email is firstname.lastname@example.org. If you want to give me your direct email I will let you know what I find out... if I find anything that might connect the two families. It is up to you. Have a nice day.
