Rufus B. Purgason, son of John Purgason of Troup & Heard Counties, was born 1-8-1844 and died 5-30-1910, according to his tombstone. His wife was Sarah Francis Duke Purgason. She was born 6-7-1845 and died 12-12-1905, according to her tombstone. Both are buried in the old Purgason family cemetary in Heard County, GA.
According to "Heard County and Her People", Sarah was the daughter of Seaborn J. Duke and Mary Cato Duke. From "The Duke Family II" by Evelyn Duke Brandenberger, Seaborn is shown as a son of Edmund Duke, son of Taylor Duke, son of James Duke, son of John Taylor Duke, Sr. From the will of Seaborn Duke (who died 5-15-1880 in Heard County, GA): he mentions "to the heirs of Sarah Furguson". Obviously, it should've been "Purgason".
