I have been searching for information about my gggrandmother. Her name is Mary, maiden/surname unknown. She married a Purkey (first name unknown) and lived near Lewisburg, West Virginia. Her very roughly estimated lifespan is 1882-1957.
Her children include Lillian (Lillie) Purkey (b. 1897) and my ggrandmother Mabel Purkey (b. 1907). She also may have had 2 Purkey sons: David (Dave) and Charles (Charlie), birthdates unknown.
It is thought that Mary is Seneca Indian. The farm that she lived on with her husband was called Frog Hollow. My grandfather Ernest Preston was born to Mabel and her husband Ernest William at this farm.
Oral family history indicates that the family also lived in Roanoke, Virginia and later on in Alcoa, Tennessee (although this may have been after she remarried and became Mary Hedrick).
