I also descend from the Keokuk County Purkeys. My ggreat grandmother was Amanda Ailene "Lena" Purkey(pile). It's been a while since I have looked through my files on this line, but I do remember a John and a Nelson in the family. I have old photos of one of Lena's brother from when she was living in Des Moines. She was married and divorced from Frances Martin, a tailor.

I moved to Warren County Ohio about 10 yrs. ago, and you can imagine my surprise to find oodles of Purkeys here in Waynesville, where I live. It's not a common name. I was wondering if anyone has done this tree far back enough to see how the Purkeys in Iowa and the ones here in Waynesville are connected.
