I thought that we might be looking for the same person until you mentioned that your ancestor moved to IL and MO. My Jacob Purkeypile moved to Ohio and stayed there until his death in 1875.
I'm trying to track down proof of Jacob Purkeypile from York, PA married to Rebecca Edwards in 1831.
There are records of land transactions in York County between Jacob and Andrew Gorsuch and then between Jacob and Andrew Perkepile in 1815 in Hopewell Township. I can't prove that they are the same as my family, but for now my guess is that they are.
My great grandfather was Levi Francis Purkeypile (Purkey), or Jacob's son. He was one of about 12 children, one of whom was John Purkey(pile)
They moved to Crawford County Ohio, near Galion in the mid 1840s.
Jacob didn't seem to leave many records of his existence, other than the censuses in 1850 and 1870. His will is filed in the Crawford probate court and I'm trying to obtain a copy of the same. It's his birth record that would really open a lot of doors for all of us, a sort of Rosetta Stone for Purkeypiles. I can't find his death certificate either, although the consensus seems to be that he died in 1875 at Leesville, Ohio in Crawford County. His wife Rebecca died in 1899 in Upper Sandusky Ohio.
I am eager to share information with anyone else looking to track down the Purkeypile family of York/Lancaster.
