Debbie,
I believe I'm descended from the Edward Bethel Purnell of your post and can furnish details on some of his descendents. At least I know I am descended from Eliza Sarah Purnell who was born in 1839 in Ledbury, Herefordshire. Her birth record notes her parents as Ann Davis and Edward Bethal Purnell. Edward was a baker. From later census records I believe that Edward was born about 1815. From there, I've come across the christening record for an Edward Bethel Purnell in Painswick in 1815. Nothing concrete proving they are one and the same, but I'm working on that assumption. Have some information about Britannia, but much of it is conflicting.
Eliza Sarah Purnell was known as Annie Purnell; she married John Owens in Swansea. He was of Pembrokeshire and was a shipwright. He died in Swansea in 1888. Annie died there in 1928. Please email me to trade more information.

Regards,
Gregg Watts
