Sophia wife of William Bishop b. ca 1728

On Feb 5, 2002 Bert Paredes posted a message concerning the use of Purnell as a given name among Many of the James Taylor/Katherine Bishop Descendants. I too have noticed this in many of the lines descending from this family.

The first use of the give name Purnell that I can find is the son of William Bishop born about 1728 died in 1807. His wife's given name is Sophia. Does anyone have information on Sophia Purnell b. ca 1713 in Snowhill Somerset County Maryland the duaghter of John Purnell and Martha (Tabitha) Bayley? Some researchers give her married name as Jenkins. Could she have been married twice?

Going back in this Bishop line there are no unidentified females until we reach John Bishop born about 1648 who married Mary Bowen in 1672. Her parents are unidentified, however I believe the Purnells and Bowens were intermarried about this time. If the name descends from this marriage it was not used for three generations and then appears in almost every generation since.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Karen
