Mrs P.M.McCarthy (nee Purse) of 20 Muirhead Avenue East, West Derby, Liverpool, on 28 September 1979 wrote a letter to Mr Winkleman of Purse Caundle, Dorset, with details of the Purse Family. This referred to a letter written (to Dear George) on 20 October 1970 by her cousin Mr Bert Purse of 5635 Netherland Ave, Riverdale, New York City, in which he makes mention of having traced the Purse family back to a 1055 A.D. document in "the Dorchester records". This in turn referred to a Purse that built many cottages for 175 serf families, and called the village Purse Caundle. I have been unable to verify any of this, and would thus appreciate hearing from any descendants of Mrs McCarthy or Mr Bert Purse, or anyone else who can provide details.
Ronald Knight, Weymouth, Dorset
