I think Lawrence Purtell was the brother of my John Purtell. Was Lawrence's wife Margaret Riorden? If so, I know where they came from in Ireland! And could Robert have lived in Ontario?

I have worked under the assumption that my John had at least two brothers: Lawrence b cir 1811 in Kilcolman, Co Limerick and Robert b cir 1808 b the same place. Robert came to Ontario about 1840 and lived his entire life in LaSalette, Ontario. Lawrence stayed in Binghamton. I believe my John (b cir 1816 the same place) arrived in Binghamton about 1850 (as did Lawrence) and left for Michigan within 3-4 years.

I have Kilcolman Parish rcds that I transcribed when I was in Ireland back in the 90's. Lawrence and my James stood up for each other's kids and lived in the same area in Kilcolman....... and then wound up in Binghamton (at St. Patrick's Church) together.

For further info, please email. Do you have pictures? I have a charcoal drawing of my John.....
