Searching for ancestors of Nancy Purtle who married Michael Scott on 21 Nov 1818, Franklin Co., Va. Information I have is that Nancy's parents were John Purtle and Jane Adams. There were several John Purtles in the Henry/Franklin/Pittsylvania Co., Va area. The surname has also been spelled Pirtle/Pirkle/Pirtil by various family members. There were several separate lines of Purtles,i.e., one that went to Rockingham Co., NC(adjacent to Henry Co.), and a line that was in Berkeley Co., Va that moved on to Pittsylvania/Henry Co., Va and on to Tennessee. Also, I'm not sure that "Adams" is Jane's surname but rather her married name after first husband John Purtle died. A Jane Purtle married Elisha Adams in 1817 in Franklin Co., Va. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
