A connection between Bartlebaugh and Purtlebaugh has been found by Ron Bartlebaugh.
He has a letter written in 1981 by Ruth Harrington in Philadelphia to Ron's father. It talks about Purtlebaughs born in theWinchester, Va area.I see a Purtlebaugh named George born 1773 Had a son George who changed his name to Bartlebaugh.Though the dates don't match of the time, George also known as Jamesis listed as son and used Bartlebaugh.Names in the letter match the wives names on my list.Does the name Sarah Shanholtz mean anything?
this Uncle Jim had extra-marital activities as it is put and the name change comes in here.
I am waiting for a copy of the whole letter.
