James Johnston, b. about 1801 in England; married Elizabeth Purviance, b about 1806 in OH or PA. They were in Delaware Co. OH in the 1840, 1850 & 1860 census. a "Mary Province" also shows up on the 1860 census with the family. Then in Bourbon Co KS in the 1870 census. I believe one child, William, b about 1831, stayed in Delaware Co. The other children, Lizzie, John Preston, Matilda, David & Ella, moved to KS with their parents. One daughter, Sarah E., married Seymour Stiles 9-17-1855 in Delaware Co. OH and had one child, Sarah E., who moved to KS with the family. One grandchild, Elmer J. Patten, b 1861, also moved to KS with the family.

In Bourbon Co: John Preston Johnston married Mary Ellen Boyd; Matilda Johnston married Judge Timothy Hackett; David A. Johnston married Maude McGuire, then Mary Margaret Thomas.
